The Hot Mikado
By David H. Bell and Rob Bowman |

|
-
Gilbert and Sullivan's 1885 comedy "The Mikado" was
an instant hit and has been adapted many times in the subsequent 125 years.
The 1986 adaptation "Hot Mikado" keeps the story unchanged but sets the tale
to a jazz and blues score based on Arthur Sullivan's original music.
-
The plot is a lunatic and comic confection of love triangles
set in a 19th century Japanese town where flirting is a capital offense.
|
|
- This swinging comedy develops the jazz style that RAOS demonstrated so
successfully in last years hit production of "Anything Goes"
